Gulf's first large-scale wind farm planned to start construction by the end of the year

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman, the first large-scale wind farm construction contract in Oman will be officially signed on October 22, and construction is expected to start at the end of the year. This is also the first large-scale wind farm project in the Gulf region.

According to reports, this 50-megawatt Dhofar wind farm project was jointly developed by Abu Dhabi Masdar and the Omani Rural Power Company RAECO, with a total investment of US $ 200 million. The project site is located in southern Oman and is expected to reduce by 110,000 per year Tons of carbon dioxide emissions.


According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman, General Electric will be responsible for the EPC project, providing 13 3.8 MW wind turbines for the wind farm. Last month, Masdar signed a wind turbine supply contract with GE and TSK in Spain.


The construction period of this wind farm project is 24 months, and it is expected to be put into use in 2020.
